Architect Ingrid Gutman founded Humawaca in 2002. Her journey into fashion design began when she created a handbag inspired by the BKF chair design, which earned her international recognition. Once the spark was ignited Ingrid pursued her passion for fashion and continued to handcraft additional styles of handbags.

The beautiful scenery of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a narrow mountain valley located in northwest Argentina, provided Ingrid with new ideas on how to incorporate the natural materials of steer hide, leather and suede into the exquisite products. As they are products of nature, variations in colour and texture are to be expected; giving each item its own unique character.
